Story/Cutscene time...and it's a long one.

Sora hurries out of the maw to the edge of the castle, and reunites with Donald and Goofy. They see Mickey fighting the Heartless and hurry to his side, and then see Xehanort. Sora demands answers to where Kairi and Riku are. Xehanort says that he knows nothing of Kairi, but for Riku, ask Mickey...and leaves. Mickey follows behind him in the portal before it disappears. Sora is frustrated that now both the King and Xehanort are gone, but Goofy tries to cheer him up.

When they all look down around the castle, there are no more Heartless, and Goofy wonders what's going on. Then they hear somone behind them saying they fell into a trap. It's Axel, Number VIII of the Organization. He says it was all a set-up by the Organization, as Xemnas is using Sora to destroy all the Heartless. Donald asks who Xemnas is, and that's the guy they just saw: Xehanort's Nobody. He changed his name. Goofy asks if the Organization's goal is to defeat all the Heartless, but Axel explains the real situation. Everytime Sora defeats a Heartless with the Keyblade, it releases a captive heart. These are what the Organization is after. However, he doesn't say what they are doing with the hearts. Sora realizes that Axel is the one who kidnapped Kairi, and Axel finally introduces himself to them. Sora asks where Kairi is, and Axel aplogizes about Kairi for some reason.

Then suddenly Saix, Number VII, comes in, and Axel vanishes. Sora begs for Saix to allow him into the realm of darkness, but Saix tells him that Kairi is fine. However, Sora wants to see her, and gets down on his knees and pleads to see Kairi. Even after that, though, Saix says no. He asks if Sora is mad at him, and to take out that rage on the Heartless. Saix says the Heartless are mindless beings, collecting hearts. The Keyblade releases the hearts and they go to darkness, weaving together to make Kingdom Hearts. When Kingdom Hearts is completed, they can finally exist. However, Malificent comes in and claims that Kingdom Hearts is her dominion. Sora pleads for no more Heartless, but Malificent does not listen to him. Saix summons Nobodies who dispatch Malificent's Heartless, then attack Malificent. However, she tells Sora to find some way to defeat the Nobodies. She does still plan on vengange, though, as she becomes engulfed by the Nobodies.

Saix then dismisses the Nobodies and resummons Heartless. Sora wonders what side the Heartless are on, and Saix tells them they are with whoever is stongest. Sora attacks the Heartless, releasing the hearts as Saix looks on. He tells Sora to continue extracting hearts as he leaves. With the fact of what is going on now, Sora loses his will to fight. He wonders if all their work has been for nothing, but then hears Malificent's voice. A bright light suddenly appears...
