As random battles are an optional but very interesting part of the game, a quick encounter on the road between Taneliz and the Mountain Pass is also shown in the second half of the clip.
In random battles you can meet everything from simple orcs to fearsome Black Dragons, and the sheer unpredictability of the system makes what could have been a rather mundane addition to Knights of the Chalice's gameplay an exciting opportunity for extra XP, rare items and gold. Since you always see what enemies you're going up against and are given the option to escape before the battle starts, there's really no risk involved unless the player actively decides to engage in combat.
