There have been many video game compilations made over the years. Some had a few titles, some had many titles, some were just straight ports of games, some were more than just straight ports, some had extra miscellaneous content, and others just contained the bare essentials. In the world of (legitimate) video game compilations and collector series, Konami's GBA "Arcade Advanced" title ranks quite high, but what is it that makes it so great?

Is it the games? Well, yes, sort of. While there's no denying that the six games presented in this title (Frogger, Scramble, Time Pilot, Gyruss, Yie Ar Kung-Fu, and Rush'n Attack) are classics in one form or another, this title wouldn't differ from so many others if they were just straight ports (and good ports they are indeed). If that's the case, what else could there be to this game? Well, some games have new multiplayer features, others have new levels added to them, and then others even have "Enhanced" modes with all-new graphics and sounds! They can all be accessed using the famous "Konami Code". Good ports, new multiplayer features, new levels, enhanced graphics and sound in some games, and other miscellaneous game-specific cheats combined with six games that are good on-the-go titles, and it starts making more sense why this game is so cool. This video shows snippets of many of the things featured in this game.

Frogger: Ah, good old Frogger. Your objective is simple: Get from one end of the screen to the next without being killed and enter one of five homes. Features an enhanced mode.

Scramble: An old shooter where you have to get as far as you can with a depleting fuel gauge and lots of enemies to shoot down. You can drop bombs and shoot fuel containers to refill your fuel. Features an enhanced mode.

Time Pilot: A cool game where you fly 360 degrees while trying to shoot down various different attack planes. After defeating the grunts, a boss plane appears. Defeat the boss to win the level and jump to a different period in history. Has a code to implement auto-fire.

Gyruss: A classic Konami shooter where you circle around enemies as though you're inside a tube; there are different layers to the tube and enemies show-up or materialize in an attempt to defeat you. They can shoot, but there are also various obstacles too. This game has an enhanced extra stage comprised of three sub-levels (Stage X, Y, and Z) and they are the hardest levels in Gyruss. Completing them takes you back to Stage 1.

Yie Ar Kung Fu: A basic, old, compotent fighting game viewed as the basis for future fighting games by some Japanese players. Playing as Oolong, you must use your fancy array of punches and kicks to exploit enemy weaknesses. Oolong can do different moves based on button and direction. The Konami code unveals two secret characters.

Rush'n Attack: A cool, old-school action game where you stab and shoot enemies while trying to save prisoners of war. Extras for the game include two new levels.

Enjoy.
