Some of you may remember a series I did back in 2013 called Cheapo Space Program. This is a variation on that same theme. Cosmonauts... err, convict cosmonauts... are on the Mun and their home countries don't have the means to bring them back quite yet. They can keep sending them supplies, but sending them home is just beyond the limits of their booster technology.
In this episode the Union of Korpulent Kerbal Republics and the Probule Federation have pooled resources to create a spacecraft of mostly PF design, the Oidvoid Rocket. When performance underwhelms and the vehicle seems prone to go into mad spins at the least fluctuation of the jets, they are temporarily at a loss as to how to proceed.
Enter the Murican Union, who hopes to make up for their late entry into the Space Race with a technological leapfrog, fueled by their worldwide monopoly on crunchy corn snacks and blockbuster movies. They hope to build a ship that will get two men to the Mun, return with the stranded cosmonauts in tow, bring toys for them to play with while they're there, AND be mostly reusable to boot. Can they pull off this technological coup or will their shiny new spaceship and the astronauts who pilot it wind up as so much charred debris on the surface of the Mun? Only time will tell.
