Late-Game Minecraft 226 :: Moss Block Planter Boxes
Continuing on with the construction of the new base, we raise the second level of our new house up by one block! Flying to the ocean to take a look, we get the idea to place planter boxes beneath our windows! The new moss block is perfect for this, allowing us to plant flowers and grass on top!
To raise the right side of the facade, first we bring the spruce fence upwards, before moving the floor as well! To lengthen the window, we add two more cut copper blocks and two glass panes from the second-floor window!
We fly over the ocean to take a look at the entire build! The second floor is now too short but we still see the difference in height between the two floors. Next, we work on raising the ceiling of the second floor by one block!
The beam of deepslate tiles has to be moved upwards as well! We do this before shifting the andesite and diorite ceiling. At the same time, we move the copper and the granite up to restore the square-shaped window!
When we are finished, the sun is beginning to set! We sleep before flying over the ocean again to look at the completed facade! We decide to change some of the polished diorite over the windows to andesite so that it matches with the second-floor ceiling.
Crafting more polished andesite, we replace the spruce fences on the ground with a block of andesite and a slab! This might form the sides of a few plant pots. In fact, we decide to remove the entire spruce floor and temporarily replace it with stone!
For the other sides of the planter boxes, we craft some spruce trapdoors! Four trapdoors form the sides of a small box, and moss blocks are placed in the middle. To make a longer box, we could also put the trapdoors in front and extend the strip of moss up to the andesite blocks!
However, for now we go with smaller planter boxes that line up with the sides of the window. We add in a few flowers on top of the moss and step back to take a look. Noticing a herd of sheep in the distance, we grab some wheat and head over to lure them into our sheep pen! A cow comes along as well.
Next, we bring another white sheep from the edge of the dark forest to join the flock! Now that we have a black sheep, we could also get all the different colours of grey from breeding! We shear all the sheep before crossing the plains to shear the bee houses.
We see that a bee has got itself trapped in our boat, oops! To safely extricate the bee, we place down some stone to block off the water before digging a hole in the beach! Once the water drains away, we destroy the boat on dry land. We place the boat on the sand instead!
We dry the rest of the kelp in the furnaces before setting up some scaffolding to study the house design from up close! So that the wall design does not appear too flat, we bring the copper out by one block with some stairs.
Placing trapdoors below the copper stairs, we end up with something that looks longer and more connected than the original planter boxes! We remove the polished andesite slabs and place down walls of andesite instead for more variations in shape.
After sleeping the night away, we decide to place sea lanterns behind the trapdoors for some hidden lighting! We also chop down our birch trees for some logs to place behind the trapdoors, on the other side of the wall.
Looking at the wall from behind, we think of a design for the floor of the interior! We place some stone in the furnaces to smelt into smooth stone. Smooth stone is not in our block palette, but it may look good next to the other stone variants!
We shear our sheep and collect the birch saplings that have dropped from the decaying leaves. Then, we use some white wool for a rectangle on the ground! While waiting for our stone to smelt, we look at the base design again and pick up some granite.
After polishing the granite, we place it within the wool border! It looks okay, but it feels like a design that we have already used before in our other bases! We are eager to try the smooth stone instead to see how that looks.
We place the wool on the ceiling and create some floor patterns with the granite! Meanwhile, we spot one of our bees flying out over the ocean towards the tall spruce tree. How strange! There are definitely no flowers out there for it to pollinate!
With the smooth stone, the floor is now too blocky for our liking! We leave behind a thin strip of stone against the wall, before we add some non-polished andesite. The edge of the moss garden is also too jagged, but we fix it with more moss blocks.
So far, we like the andesite floor the most! It looks a little plain but once we have added in some furniture, it will be alright. For the rest of the episode, we work on giving the garden of moss a more regular shape, with a border of sea lanterns as well!
