Late-Game Minecraft 221 :: Blocks for the New Base
We return to our new base today in the updated chunks! Along the way, we stop by the Guardian farm to pick up some sea lanterns. Back in the plains, we craft some tinted glass and unlock an advancement for waxing our first copper block! We also start creating a design for the exterior of the base.
After picking up some rockets, we store the diamond tools in our Ender chest for more inventory space. We also pick up some saplings so we can grow more wood types at our new base! Then, we head underground to buy some glass blocks, lanterns and name tags from our librarian villagers.
We rename a name tag on an anvil so we can stop mobs from despawning easily! Then, we travel through the Nether to get to our Guardian farm. We unintentionally rouse a mob of angry zombie piglins when trying to get some gold, oops! As two magma cubes bounce aggressively towards us, we grab our rockets and fly away!
Seems like our Guardian farm is still working in 1.17 which is great! After turning the farm on, we gather the materials needed to craft sea lanterns. In total, we craft slightly less than four stacks of lanterns which should be more than enough!
We did not bring an oak sapling with us, but that is fine since oak trees are so common. Still in the Nether, we accidentally look at an Enderman! We dispatch a few mobs before returning to the portal at the mountain base, where we start flying towards the north.
At the base of Spyglass Mountain, we go to sleep to skip the night before continuing on! It is not long before we reach the plains where we are setting up our new base. We apply honeycomb to a weathered copper block and get a cool new advancement! We also craft the new tinted glass blocks.
After keeping the items that we brought over in the chest, we smelt some golden swords into nuggets and plant some birch saplings! The bee nest goes below the leaves of a birch tree nearby. We place down our campfire beneath the nest so we can harvest from it without angering the bees!
The new tinted glass blocks have some properties that make them very different from ordinary glass! They block the in-game light levels while still being see-through. They can also be picked up without using any tool! We build a small box of tinted glass to test them out.
Replacing the sandstone in our block palette with stripped birch log, we are now ready to come up with a design for the new house! We start with some spruce wood blocks that tend to look good wherever they are placed! We line the floor with spruce and form some columns with stripped logs.
We may eventually switch the spruce wood out for something else though, since it looks a little uninteresting! We make the deepslate pillars taller so that they stand out more! We also add polished diorite blocks at the top of the spruce columns for contrast with the dark grey deepslate!
So far, the design looks alright! We add in a normal diorite beam going across the pillars before we sleep, but we remove it in the morning. The bees look like they are having some trouble finding flowers, so we use some bone meal to grow more flowers for them!
We craft a composter for our tiny farm before experimenting with tuff blocks for the base. We prefer the diorite for the contrast though! Also, we have very little tuff in our chests. We use stripped birch logs for some windowsills and add another spruce column, together with more diorite!
For more variety, we place down a rose bush in our garden! Then, we look for a sheep to get white wool for the base. We craft some spruce fences to form a pen for sheep where we can breed them! Only one sheep is nearby though. I guess it will do for now!
We cut away the tall grass in the pen since the sheep would gobble it up! Chopping a few more birch trees that have grown, we craft them into planks for the sides of the windows. The base is starting to take shape, but it looks too wooden in nature!
Since it is the cave update, I think we would want to use more stone-like blocks instead! For the top corners of the window, we add in polished granite that does not really match the birch and spruce wood. We plant down the birch saplings and collect some honeycomb and wool before ending the episode.
