Here are a few tips to help you get started with healing. Healer is my favorite role and I know that healing intimidates a lot of people. It is a lot easier than you may think. Let me know what you think of these tips!
(I totally want to make healer guides focused on each class eventually!)

Which Classes can heal
• Conjurer / WHM
• Scholar
• Astrologian
• All the classes have their own mechanics and playstyles. With that in mind, all the tips I go through will be high level enough to apply to all of them.
Always be casting
• Healer DPS is actually pretty important in FFXIV. Whenever you have a chance you should be doing damage.
○ That said, when you are first starting out with healing. Focus on just healing. Especially in the dungeons through ARR, your team will do plenty of damage.
Tunnel Vision Bad
• Don't tunnel vision in on your party's HP bars
• Watch the boss enemy for their attacks
• Move the Party Element closer to the middle of the screen
Learn your strength
• Look at how much your heals do so you know when you need to heal. At first I would heal team mates when they had a little bit of chip damage. Wait until they have taken more damage and heal it all up in one cast.
Don't Panic
• There will be mechanics that just drops a ton of damage on to your party. This is expected. In these scenarios, utilize your tools and heal up your team.
Manage your resources.
• All three classes have access to a couple skills know has Role Skills. Two I want to touch on are
○ Lucid Dreaming -
§ Duration 21s - Cool Down 60s
§ This is how you are going to get you MP back. It is important that you use this basically on cooldown every minute while in fights. Look at your MP, if you are lower than 9000 use it.
§ As you get more experienced with your class you will learn at what point you should pop it.
○ Swift Cast -
§ Duration 10s - Cool down 60s
§ This skill allows your next cast to be instant. Most of the time I save this to use with Raise. Raise has a pretty long cast time of 8 secs. In the middle of a boss fight, you don't want to stop healing for 8 secs to get someone up. In these cases use Swift Cast into Raise to make it instant.
Low Level Raid Healing
• This does not apply at all to the harder raid content in the game. In Raids there will be 2 healers per 8 players. In these instances. I healed like I was the only healer there but most importantly keep your priorities straight,
○ Healers - Keep yourself and your co healer up. If y'all don't stay alive then the chance of clearing the raid goes way down
○ Tanks - After that, keep the tanks up. They will hopefully keep the heat off of you
○ DPS- Finally the DPS. You want to keep them up last but keep in mind. Every time they die, the fight becomes longer and longer. The DPS directly contribute to how long the fight lasts. You want it to be a short as possible.
