Not all people with a PC can run BF4 on Ultra with the framerate at which they're comfortable. Personally, I'm perfectly fine with 30 fps since I started on consoles (still play on them, by the way). The next best option is probably to tune the graphics to the PS4 version (which still looks damn great) so that some sort of balance between visuals and performance could be established. Well, I think I've found it.

First, these aren't the official PS4 settings. I don't think anyone apart from the BF4 devs would know the exact settings for the PS4 version. But I've had the opportunity to play the game on PS4 for awhile and I think the settings I mixed up are quite close to it. Also, I did my share of research before arriving at my settings.

With the Y410p being a mid-range gaming laptop as of this writing, I think it's a wonderful setup to test the settings on. For the record, the PS4's GPU was custom-made by AMD, capable of 1.84 TFLOPs. The closest discrete AMD GPU to it I could find is the HD 7850, which is capable of 1.76 TFLOPs. It's a desktop GPU, which is naturally more powerful the Y410p's mobile GPU that is the GT 750M (or GT 755M in some models), capable of only 722.7 GFLOPs. I know I shouldn't be comparing GPUs from different manufacturers since they don't have the same ratings, but in terms of sheer performance from benchmarks the HD 7850 is about 59% more powerful than the GT 750M -- just to give a little bearing on where the GT 750M stands compared to the PS4's GPU. BF4 on the PS4 is natively rendered at 900p (as opposed to the Xbox One version at 720p) and then upscaled to 1080p, so I went with it to be consistent and get a more accurate performance reading.

My PS4 settings:

Resolution - 1600 x 900
Refresh Rate - 59.94 Hz (or 60 Hz)
Resolution Scale - 100%
Vertical Sync - On
Motion Blur Amount - 50%
Weapon DOF - On

Graphics Quality - Custom
Texture Quality - Ultra
Texture Filtering - Ultra
Lighting Quality - High
Effects Quality - High
Post Process Quality - Medium
Mesh Quality - Ultra
Terrain Quality - Medium
Terrain Decoration - Medium
Antialiasing Deferred - Off
Antialiasing Post - Medium
Ambient Occlusion - HBAO

The PS4's CPU has been reported to be weak. So, I tried reducing my CPU performance further to 50% to see any temperature improvements and if it would affect gameplay smoothness. These are the results...

Framerates:
Range - 22 to 62 fps
Average - 43 fps

Maximum Operating Temperatures (2 hours of gaming):
CPU - 77 to 80 °C
GPU - 79 °C

Although the game's performance doesn't appear to be affected, the PC was having difficulty running other processes in the background. I think 70% CPU performance is the sweet spot to keep temps below 90 °C while holding enough juice to let a big game like BF4 run. If the game still isn't as smooth as preferred, reducing the resolution to 768p might help. The differences between 900p and 768p is quite minimal, anyway (about 27% fewer pixels). Or go with the bare minimum BF4 should be played at 720p (Xbox One) if that still isn't enough.
