Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p - Crysis 3 Performance Test (Very High/High)
Ever since the first Crysis game, PC builds have been tested to their limits, thanks to the demanding hardware specs required to run each title smoothly. The payoff is getting the prettiest picture seen in shooters. It seems the trend continues with the latest entry, even when it still uses the engine that powered Crysis 2.
Crysis 3's visual style is akin to Crysis 2 largely because of Cry Engine 3. As with any old engine, however, devs gain a better command of it over time -- and it shows. They've managed to make the game look gorgeous, even at lower settings. Maybe it's due to the even mix of concrete, plants, and water, or how they were put together. I don't know. Lighting, shadows, particles, and other effects have improved, as well. Man, those god rays look nice. This video doesn't give the game justice. You should see the thing in action.
The only thing I could max out was textures, using only about 72% of the VRAM. Maxing out every setting in Advanced Graphics proved to be too much, giving me a 13 fps minimum and a 24 fps average. It will bring any GPU down to its knees at those settings. The differences between High and Very High are quite subtle, anyway, so anyone should be happy enough to settle for the lower setting. There's negligible performance hit between Low and Medium SMAA, so I used the latter. It should be kept in mind that the game is optimized for AMD GPUs, so don't feel bad if your Nvidia can't handle it well. I bumped up the max GPU temp to 85 degrees, giving me an actual of 87.
Framerates:
Range - 22 to 65 fps
Average - 40 fps
Maximum Operating Temperature (1 hour of gaming):
CPU - 85 to 88 °C
GPU - 87 °C
