Sometimes you don't want to play a complicated video game or don't have enough time. Other times you want a game that's easy to play but difficult to master, that gets more challenging as it progresses and has an element of luck that'll keep you coming back to try get that high score.

And then there are times when you want to drive around in a tank blowing up armies of other tanks. If all those things appeal, look no further then Battlecity.

A Japan only Game Boy port of a Japan only Famicom game, the only reason I've had so much experience playing this game while on holidays is because of its prevalence on the many multicarts I bought while on vacation. Often used to fill up the numbers of games within the carts I spent way too long haggling for in electronics shops, it's a fun enough game that challenges you to beat the high score and also to complete it if you can. It requires tactical thinking, fast reactions and learning the maps of each level to best take on the groups of up to twenty tanks in each stage. If you're looking for a game to fill small gaps of time you have I'd definately suggest this one but unless you're able to find it in Japan it'll cost you a fair bit to get the official release.

Now that I think on it, probably should've enjoyed the evening walks on my holidays instead of constantly gazing at the multicarts on sale and haggling. I imagine at times my parents weren't happy with my and my siblings exploits trying to get the best deals. There was an element of mystery to it too as I had very little idea what most of the games on them were. I still own most of the multicarts I bought on those holidays and I'm thankful to them for exposing me to some great games; the Turok platformers, Power Quest, TMNT 3 and Lucky Luke are among some of the games I discovered this way. There were also a lot of filler games and some terrible ones, along with japanese language games where I had no idea what was going on but that was the risk you took when you bought multicarts.

But enough about multicart purchasing while on holiday, it's time to drive a tank!
