Let's Play Betrayal at Krondor #98: Slow and Methodical Exploration
At times it may seem like we're way too powerful for the opponents we face, easily befuddling spellcasters and cutting down the warriors that dare to face off against Gorath and Owyn. Other times, however, we're quickly overwhelmed and survive only thanks to our vast stockpile of restoratives and a desperate use of Skin of the Dragon. What's determining this is whether we manage to gain the initiative, the most powerful of tools in our arsenal. Catching our opponents by surprise allow us to dictate the first moves in battle, be if protective spells or offensive actions. Losing it has the opposite effect, with some very close calls that I'm trying to learn from.
The most important lesson I've taken from these encounters is that it shouldn't always be Gorath who gets Skin of the Dragon, nor should that always be the first spell. Taking out spellcasters takes priority and when between Owyn and Gorath, it's my own spellcaster who often benefits most from the invulnerability that Skin of the Dragon provides. Every combat is different, however, forcing you to adapt your plan to match what your opponent has and what they're doing.
