Part 1 of my playthrough of Guard Duty.

Guard Duty is an adventure game that ostensibly takes place across a thousand years. you play as Tondbert, a bit of an idiot Town Guard, who ends up causing the abduction of the local princess, who you then swear to go find. Along the way you have to do a bunch of silly adventure story stuff (as expected) and make the situation decidedly worse (as expected).

Guard Duty is very much an adventure game, with it's noted pixel count, pointing and clicking to solve puzzles, and just a sprinkle of moon logic thrown in for good measure. It's got a delightful soundtrack, solid voice-acting and writing that actually makes the characters seem like sort-of-actual people. One or two folks are actually given extremely over-engineered backstories that I ended up walking right into and got to listen to them talk at me, the player, for a long time.

Guard Duty isn't that long of a game (I probably could have done it in one sitting had I not been goofing around) and takes place across 3 acts and a prologue. This video gets us all the way to Act 3, so that should give you a measure of game length. I'm not saying that's bad or good, but it's worth noting, so you can make some cost/time calculations for yourself.

I'm interested to see how they're going to tie the future of 2074 back to the year 1074 and wrap the story up.
