Part 1 of my playthrough of Flight of the Amazon Queen.

Flight of the Amazon Queen is a 1995 point-n-click adventure game set in 1949/1950. You play Joe King, a pilot for hire that seems to get into situations wherever he goes. He used to be a baseball player, and features a vaguely NYC accent that cannot be placed. He's tasked with flying Faye to a photo shoot in the Amazon, when their plane is struck by lightning and goes down. And then things get weird.

Now, it's fun to have a nostalgia trip about how good point-n-click adventure games were "back in the day". Fond memories of interesting stories, characters, and exotic locations. Sadly the reality is that a lot of those adventure games were a legit struggle to play, with obnoxious back-tracking, extremely specific sequences, and moon logic puzzles that add up to a legit struggle.

Flight of the Amazon Queen is a great example of this. This game is.. hard to play. It's controls are clunky, it's sequences are at times extremely specific (use instead of give, when both make sense), the amount of back and forthing across a bunch of screens because there's not a decent method of quick travel makes Flight of the Amazon Queen a real struggle. That's also putting aside the clunky (and at times problematic) jokes and voice acting. I know it was the 90's and a lot of these games were made on shoestring budgets, but boy howdy does it show now.

I'm going to get through Flight of the Amazon Queen, I promise you. I am not sure, however, if I'm going to enjoy it. It's literally free on GOG, so you can play it if you want with no financial investment. So that's something.
