I picked this game up from the Racial Justice bundle from itch.io.

The King's Bird reminds me of a bunch of other games like Hollow Knight, Child of Light, Silver Grapple, Celese etc, and yet at the same time is something completely on its own.

You play as a child that wants to be free from the prison that is her home town. After some shenanigans, she is granted the power of .. not quite flight, more like boosted gliding and off on an adventure you go. The mechanics are such that you can glide for an amount of time (there are ways to extend that) and you have to use gravity to build momentum so you can cannon yourself up into the air and around obstacles.

This game looks and sounds gorgeous, I cannot stress that enough. It is a delight to experience in those respects. The controls (I was using a controller) are pretty solid, though I struggled with accidentally reversing my direction a bit too often. The save point system is pretty forgiving and you can fail fast and often without it feeling too punishing.

The King's Bird sits distinctly in the camp of "a really good game that I'm not good at" in that I struggle with momentum-utilizing platform games. You only have to watch my time with Silver Grapple to see another example of that. I'm not great at momentum-style games and I have no idea why. If that's something you're into, you should absolutely check this game out.
