Let’s Play HC Minecraft Take Three #44: Working Around the Edges

There are many different ways to fill in maps, some far more efficient than others. My favourite is to go around the edges first, mapping them out and then focusing on the interior sections. This is a little tricker when you’re travelling on foot, for large oceans will prevent you from getting to the edges of the map without abandoning your steed. In these situations, I focus instead on filling in the areas of land, leaving the ocean parts for a second mapping effort by boat.
One thing I haven’t been doing that I really should think about at some point is to mark places of interest on said maps, something made possible with banners. Placing a named banner down while holding a map will mark said place on the map, making finding them again so much easier. If I planned to make use of the villages I found on my travels I’d certainly do that, but right now I’m still hoping that I can get my own village set up. Time will tell if that’s a realistic dream or not.
