Well, now I FINALLY have a good time to record (for a bit, at least...), but since I'm getting nowhere fast in my other project, let's go back to a game with which I am familiar. Next up in Mega Man 4 is Bright Man. His stage is fairly easy, and it introduces some odd new enemies, such as grasshoppers that you can ride over spikes, green spinning ceiling fans, and a pair of enemies that affect the lights in the stage if destroyed: the lightbulb enemy turns them off, and the firework-shooting enemy turns them back on. We also have some platforms that move in inverted arcs and a couple of goodies to pick up on a side path. Bright Man himself...he can be a handful. He jumps across the room toward Mega Man, and if he is on the ground, he can shoot round pellets straight horizontally, a bit upward, or a bit downward. He can also use the Flash Stopper, which freezes Mega Man in place for a couple seconds. He is weak to Toad Man's weapon, but I didn't use it; I just hammered away at him with charged shots. Defeating him gives you the Flash Stopper, which acts much like his did; you can use it to freeze all enemies in place temporarily (and unlike the Time Stopper in Mega Man 2, you get multiple uses of it and can still fire when it is in effect!).

Now, Bright Man is interesting because there is actually a bit of a trick to his A.I. that I found out well after playing the game for the first time, and it has to do with when he can use the Flash Stopper. Apparently, he can only use it when his health bar is at one of three specific levels: 16, 8, or 4 (which would be 12, 20, and 24 damage taken). If he has any other amount of HP left, he won't use it, which means that you're in for a rough time if you use his weakness (Rain Flush does 4 damage to him per shot, and it takes quite a while before you can fire off another one), but you can shoot him once and then use his weakness, or as I prefer, shoot him once with an uncharged shot and use charged shots for the rest of the fight (either way, it won't hit any of the numbers you want to avoid).
