Let's Play Mega Man X2 - Part 14: The Fall of Sigma
Well, you knew this was coming...it's time for the fifth fortress stage, where we can finally put an end to Sigma for good! Or at least for a while...or at least until Mega Man X3. Oddly, the stage starts out identical to the first part of Magna Centipede's stage except for the music, which is the same as that of the intro stage. It's not similar, it's an absolute carbon copy of the Central Computer stage up to the first midboss. If you missed one or more of Zero's parts earlier in the game, you'll have to fight Zero here. I got them all, so I don't have to deal with him...which is good, because Sigma comes immediately after that. He has two forms this time; his first form is the basic Sigma humanoid body, this time with Wolverine-esque claws and a weakness to the Sonic Slicer, and his second form is a digitized floating head, weak to the Strike Chain. I usually don't bother with the first form's weakness because it's slow to come out and only does two units of damage; I find the buster easier to use here. I do like to use the weakness weapon of the second form, though. Sigma will dash around trying to slash you and bounce you right off the walls, wall-jump and disappear, reappear right above you, and shoot electric orbs and bolts, but it's not as hard as it sounds, as long as you stay on your toes. His second form can be a bit of a problem, if for no other reason than that it takes quite a while to kill, particularly if you're using the buster (if I remember correctly, you must charge your shots to do any damage). It moves from left to right shooting a laser, then it swoops down and spawns two enemies. Once you have brought Sigma's health down enough, he will also disappear and try to reappear on top of you and trap you inside his...head projection. If you defeat him, well, obviously, you've beaten the game, and the endgame cutscenes and credits follow.
I quite like Mega Man X2; I think it's one of the best games in the series. It's a good representation of the MMX games as a whole, I think, especially the ones on the SNES. If you like Mega Man, unless you're one of those people who likes the original series but doesn't care for any of its spinoffs, then I'd definitely recommend this game. I'd consider the difficulty, weapons, and music all about average for the series...and I don't really know what else to say about it. I hope you all enjoyed this series of videos, in any case, so...I'll see you next time!
