I can't go too long without LPing, can I? So I'm doing another one (and only one at a time this time). It's been a while since I did my recordings of Donkey Kong Country 3, so let's do another game in the series and have some fun with Donkey Kong Country 2. This one is usually considered the most difficult of the three, but it's not too bad. (Two or three stages later in the game ARE bad, but we shall not talk about them until necessary.) Like DKC3, DKC2 is an all-around beautifully-designed game, with respect to the graphics, music, and everything. Probably more than any other, this game has some very famous and awesome music tracks.

So, the basic plot of the game is that Donkey Kong has been kidnapped, and Diddy and Dixie must find and rescue him. Yeah, standard-fare excuse plot right there. The Kremlings in this game tend toward a pirate theme; even K. Rool is called "Kaptain K. Rool" here. The first world is called Gangplank Galleon, which is exactly the same name as the final boss stage from the first Donkey Kong Country. It probably IS the same location, considering that the stages here take place on a pirate ship. Odd theme for a first world, but hey, whatever works! Pirate Panic is the first stage we come across, it takes place on the deck of a pirate ship, and it's a good introduction to some of the common gameplay mechanics in the game. There are a couple different types of Kremlings here, plus rat baddies that can be taken out easily enough, two bonus rooms to find, and Rambi, one of your animal buddies. He showed up in the first game, was absent in the third, and came back in Donkey Kong Country Returns without any other animal baddies (rather sad, that). If Pirate Panic is 1-1, then Mainbrace Mayhem is 1-2. It takes place in the rigging of the ship, so there are lots of ropes to climb. It's a bit more difficult than Pirate Panic and introduces a few more enemies. 1-3 is Gangplank Galley, another ship deck one. It is similar to Pirate Panic, but, of course, harder and with new enemies and gimmicks to contend with.

Also in this game are four other members of the Kong Family to help you on your quest. There's Cranky Kong, who can give you hints about some of the secrets in levels; Wrinkly Kong, who can save your game and give you info about gameplay mechanics; Funky Kong, who allows you to travel from one world to another (although he can't do much now since we can access only one world at this point anyway), and Swanky Kong, who gives you extra lives if you complete his quiz games. Cranky and Wrinkly appeared in this video, but Funky and Swanky don't show up until the next one.

With that, we've started off another great game. Let us continue our quest!
