Let's Play Mega Man X2 - Part 6: Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Bubbles in the Sea
We've reached the halfway point, at least as far as the Mavericks go. Starting on the second half of them, we tackle our fifth stage and boss, Bubble Crab in the Deep Sea Base. Obviously, this is the water stage of the game, and as such, we have Mega Man water physics in the works, which means that you can jump significantly higher and farther in water and, as it turns out, jump an extra time on the surface of the water...which will be important later. This stage is actually fairly easy, although it does have a few dangerous jumps and one annoyingly slow invincible enemy. You can get the heart tank the first time through, but the Sub-Tank requires the weapon you get after defeating this stage's boss. Bubble Crab isn't hard, but he's not easy either. He spends a lot of time with a large, tough bubble around himself, which protects him from damage and takes a lot of shots to destroy. (Why are bubbles always so durable in Mega Man games anyway?) When he takes it off, he usually jumps up in the air with a pair of green energy pincers. He can also spit a ring of bubbles at you (although he didn't do it during my fight with him) and throw a group of floating enemies in bubbles. Defeating him gives you the Bubble Splash. It sounds wimpy, and I guess it kind of is, but whatever. The regular, uncharged version makes you shoot streams of bubbles by holding down the Y button. The charged version surrounds you with bubbles, which act as a shield that can destroy anything that attacks you from the left or right (you're still vulnerable from the top and bottom). It also makes you jump even higher in water, which is necessary to get the Sub-Tank in this stage.
