Let's Play Princess Maker 2 - Episode 14 - The apparel difficulties of Questobelle Levelzero
Let's Play Princess Maker 2! The NPCs are Dads! It's time to do an awful job raising a medieval-era fairy child in a fantasy kingdom through child labor and prohibitively expensive private lessons as the NPCs play Princess Maker 2!
In this week's episode:
The NPCs have made a fair bit of cash, and it's time to take Questobelle to the next level. She's making headway with the Minister of State, but refinement's tough to come by, so why not give it a little boost with a nice, expensive silk dress? But what's this? The tailor hasn't tailored the dress to fit Questobelle... Like one would think. Nope, guess it's time to put little Questy on a diet.
Princess Maker 2 is the story of a great hero's journey into parenthood after his timely rescue of a once-sodom & gommorah-esque kingdom from the fate bestowed upon it by the pantheon of apparently gender-bending Roman gods, by defeating a satan analogue and putting the kingdom's people back on a righter path. Some time in the year 1209, the gods bestowed upon the hero a daughter, who he was to raise from childhood to adulthood as he saw fit for reasons not entirely adequately explained. The game tells the story of that fated pre-into-teen year time.
Princess Maker 2 is, as one might expect, the 2nd game in the Princess Maker series, released in Japan in 1994 by Gainax, the animation studio best known for Neon Genesis: Evangelion, and a host of other (better) series. Though Gainax had released a number of adult video games, Princess Maker skews on the significantly less risque, focusing on child rearing. Gameplay revolves around rare interactions with the player's daughter character, and creating monthly schedules for her, where she can work, take classes, or adventure, each raising the daughter's stats. The way the player raises their virtual daughter leads her down a path to one of many endings, where she can become anything from a farm owner, to a jester, to a princess, to the queen of the underworld.
Matt & Luke are playing on the experimental, officially unreleased translated version, localized by Adventions in 1995.
Game audio is played on a Roland MT-32
