In this episode we arrive at the town of Alterone shortly after the destruction of Guardania, but the townspeople all seem either unconcerned or disbelieving with regard to Runefaust's aggression. While traveling through town, we encounter a witch who gives us a chilling fortune: death lies to the North, and we should turn back if we value our lives. Undaunted, we travel to the throne room to meet with the king, who we tell of the events at Guardania. He tells us we should follow him to consult with his "tactician," who turns out to be none other than Kane of Runefaust! He has managed to convince Alterone to surrender, and promptly jails us for daring to oppose him. Khris, a healer who warned us earlier to be careful when speaking to king, frees us from our cell, joining our quest to defeat the forces of Runefaust. She opens a secret passage from inside the cell, but our attempt to escape Kane's clutches are thwarted by an ambush of Runefaust forces lying in wait for us to emerge from the passage inside the town. Kane is recalled to Runefaust by Darksol before the battle begins, believing the force he leaves behind will make quick work of the Shining Force. With weapons drawn, we enter the fray, determined to prove him wrong.
