Bonus video! This time we're taking a look at the battle mode that Bomberman is so famous for. It's just a bit of fun but hey, that's what we're here for right? Welcome, one and all, to Super Bomberman 2: Battle Mode!



We're taking another step back into my childhood with this one. Storywise it's standard Bomber Man fare with an impromptu invasion by a hoard of indeterminably evil Bombermen, with no apparent goals outside conquest. The fable White Bomber, hero of old, must stand against this threat; storm through each of their lands (yes they brought their lands with them, it's complicated) before delivering that specific evil Bomber swift justice.

The worlds are widely contrasting over a wide range of themes. Each have their own interesting sub mechanics that increase the complexity of the game over time. As more powerups become available to us to counter the increasingly difficult enemies we must balance enemies, puzzle elements and environmental hazards as we overcome basic stages. Eventually we'll face off with each Bomber in turn, in a one on one deathmatch fashion. Defeating them leads to an embarrassing defeat as they instead turn to their large mechanical attack weapons. Take these down too and that Bomber is defeated for good. Take them all down, and the world is saved; simple.

All the classic powerups are here, we can kick, throw, walk through walls, have blasts that pierce through walls as well as the almighty remote mines. The full compliment's here and that makes for great fun in the battle mode, which is also available.

It's a remarkably well built game with a catchy soundtrack, memorable boss fights, a relaxingly short length and a... passable storyline. What more could you ask for?
