Let's Play The Banner Saga [Part 20] - Fast Salt Encounter

When we left of playing The Banner Saga, we were performing quite poorly in terms of gameplay. Especially when it came to the combat and battles. But I don't blame the game or its designers for making the gameplay as they did, I just blame myself for being bad at the gameplay. There's an important distinction to be had there.

However, we're back, we're bold, and we've got the old badass Varl warleader Krumer in our team. He apparently knew Iver from before. He calls Iver Yngvar for some reason, which probably will play a role in the upcoming narrative at some point, and also has to do with Iver's back story, if I had to guess. However, the plot is not the main focus of this episode of Let's Play The Banner Saga, although there is an amazing and highly story relevant event that happens part way through. Let's just say that the Varl storyline with Hakon and friends, and the human storyline with Rook, Alette, Iver, and company feel like they're finally starting to converge into an overall main storyline dealing with the Dredge!

We also have to deal with more Dredge in battle this time around. As I've shown, I'm not exactly the most strategic of commanders, and I always charge and rush into battle like an idiot. However, I had a decent level of pride in my tactical ability when it came to each individual combat encounter. I was proven wrong over the past few episodes when the gameplay seemed to get way harder and The Banner Saga made me into a simpering coward. But no longer. I will die before I flee.

We also get some cool King of Dragon Pass style encounters, and have to deal with the realities of managing a caravan of people who are slowly dying because we have food, no supplies, no renown with which to buy food and supplies, no nearby settlements at which to buy food and supplies, and we have been going on a forced death march with no rest at my command. Also, people are deserting left and right.
