Let's Play The Banner Saga [Part 21] - Einartoft
We talk to Fasolt after the battle and he tells us that the Varl capital of Grofheim was destroy, which we knew already because The Banner Saga features gameplay from two different campaigns, and we were in the campaign with Hakon and friends, who went to Grofheim and saw it was destroyed. In fact, Fasolt was there with us too, but I guess he has to inform Rook, and Alette, and Iver and the others so it makes some sense from a storytelling or narrative perspective I guess.
Then we see a giant goddamn snake moving around in the mountains and it's terrifying. I'm not sure why it's there, but I can only imagine that it is very relevant to the plot. Mostly because the game went into a weird pseudo-cutscene type thing and it only does that when something important to the story is happening.
Then we get to the godstone of Hadrborg, creator of the Varl. That's a cool tidbit of setting I guess, but he's also dead like all the other gods. Either way a bunch of Varl are there, ready to head off to Einartoft, but Fasolt says that we can't go because we're humans and ain't no humans allowed in Einartoft because that's just how things are in the world of The Banner Saga. Then he realizes that Iver is really Yngvar, which we don't know the meaning of yet, other than that his backstory is probably highly important to the overall storyline because of how much Stoic has been hinting at him being some great guy. Of course, Iver sticks up for us and that means we're going to Einartoft!
After some messing around with our heroes and merchants and stuff, we finally get to Einartoft and more conversations and story! I hope you like The Banner Saga's story because that's what this episode is full of. After a brief rest, we go to the great hall and get a unique still image cutscene type thing. That's how you know it's really important to the storyline. Plus all of the major characters are there. There's the Varl King Jorunder, there's Rook, there's Alette, there's Iver/Yngvar, and there is all time badass of all time Hakon! It's about to get realer than real in the plot of The Banner Saga, I can tell.
Then there's some special type of Dredge called a Stonesinger cutting a path across the bridge into Einartoft. Which can only mean one thing from a gameplay standpoint: Boss Fight! From a setting or narrative standpoint, a Stonesinger is like the Dredge equivalent of a Mender which is like the Banner Saga equivalent of a wizard. Luckily that mender dude Eyvind that we saved with Hakon and Mogr (and then we lost Mogr) is there to help us combat the Dredge Stonsinger. Well, more like he was going to fight it on his own, and then we weaseled into the encounter because Boss Fight!
