Let's Play The Elder Scrolls Arena - Part 6 - Upgrade Complete!
I make a few changes to hopefully make the quality better in future videos. First and foremost, I have changed the default Soundblaster music output to Bassmidi with the Arachno soundfont. This makes the music sound MUCH better in DOS based games, making the experience a bit more enjoyable.
We also have upgraded from OBS 0.13 to 0.14.1, which mostly includes a lot of features that are uninteresting such as NVIDIA stuff that outputs lower quality than x264. However, one thing of importance is that apparently lanczos should finally be working properly. I am not sure there is any difference between resampling stuff if we don't decrease size, I tend to keep my videos at 1080p which is the same as my monitor resolution. Basically, up to this point we have been using Bicubic, which does the same thing but reduces the amount of samples to 16, Lanczos reduces it to 32 and therefore is twice as high in quality. Before lanczos would actually make things worse, causing edges to be extremely blurry. As I said, this may all be irrelevant for my system, but it was a setting I changed.
The bad news is that OBS's upgrade also reset my audio. I painstakingly went through all my settings only to forget to check my volume levels prior to recording. Of course, that was the one faulty thing. It isn't too horrible, but everything is much louder in this video, especially game audio which can nearly conceal my voice at times (luckily, this generally was only a problem in the shops where I would just mutter about costs). As this is part 1 of a recording session, I didn't fix this issue until the middle of the next part.
This video can be summarized simply as us finishing up the dungeon we have been on since Part 2, Stonekeep. I kill a bunch of stuff and pick up a lot to sell, giving me close to 14000 gold. We actually learn that there is an inventory limit that is separate from the max weight value in this part, I end up dropping a bunch of 1 gold daggers and some 3 gold staffs to hold better stuff (though it is still a hurtful sacrifice for a kleptomaniac like me). When I manage to gain a level, I put everything I can on Agility, since enemies seem to have too great of an ability to block at the moment. I also spend a lot of time swimming to try to map out Stonekeep just to ensure I am not missing some dead end with treasure. This part also has us entering a large area filled with ghouls to collect the parchment we came for.
Completing Stonekeep and gathering our parchment, we head back to Rhihad to enjoy a nice sunrise view, one of the earliest day/night cycles in a game. Of course, then I spend 40 minutes selling things since I am obsessed with getting the best value I can from the barter system. I sell a bunch of items I will never need, including some valuable plate helms I cannot use. I am starting to question whether or not Chainmail can have magical properties. We also buy a new Dai-katana, this one having a special Willpower modifier that boosts my weakest stat so I am not taking worse damage to magic than the standard player (-2 to 0).
I also go to the Mages Guild again to identify my jewelry, since it is otherwise confusing to sell the non-equipped ones since every piece looks exactly the same in name (plus I have a lot of gold to spare and nothing to spend it on). I also check out the magical Longswords I picked up, pretty anti-climatic and not as good as my Lifesteal. We also find out my potion is a Potion of Invisibility, which could be interesting to play with. I also buy a Mithril Belt to replace the Elven, which gives me -7 instead of -5. We finish this part off by selling the junk swords.
