In this part we remember to return the magic tome to get our 165 gold pieces. It seems everyone in this world is amazed with my ability to remember said book, it definitely was a close call and one of my hardest challenges yet.

I also head to the Fortress of Ice, which I have never survived more than a few feet into, meaning that from this point forward it is an entirely blind playthrough. The reason for this is something called a Snow Wolf, which is a lot like a regular wolf except that it shoots rapid fire balls of magical ice that can kill you in a few seconds. As this place is filled to the brim with them, that means we are going to die a lot while we quickly try to close the distance to kill the wolf.

Speaking of dying, this does mean we finally get to see Jagar Tharn mock us as we die, since he is gaining more of a presence than Ria Silmane. Instead of her bored face, we get an insane mage yelling at me every time I die.

A lot of this map is based around a central area with an obelisk, with a bunch of side corridors all around said area. The way forward is pretty distinguished on the map, but we decide as usual to explore elsewhere. We get rewarded a bunch, I get over -20 AC which means that I have an extremely high level of defense (even if it doesn't look like it...)

We also meet another type of new creature in this part, an Ice Golem, who apparently has a ridiculous amount of agility since we are apparently unable to hit it no matter how many times we swing. As this is pretty much the enemy we see when we don't see a Snow Wolf or a Warrior, this place is brutal.

It was smart to hold onto the two Longswords I have picked up, they have become essential lifelines. Lifesteal is a necessity at this point, the only place to rest is quite a bit into the dungeon and requires fighting a massive mob of enemies to reach. Firestorm is the only way we are able to kill an Ice Golem.

The good news is that these enemies give a lot of XP! With it, hopefully we can build ourselves up a bit better so that we take a few more seconds to die. Did I say this area was painful between the spell-required Ice Golems, nearly life-eliminating Warriors, and rapid fire death known as a Snow Wolf?

Another problem is the fact that there is too much good stuff in this dungeon that it tortures the kleptomaniac in me, I end up dropping a lot of valuable stuff to pick up other valuable stuff. If only the dungeons didn't reset as soon as I left, so that I could potentially carry it all back with me. However, the Fortress of Ice is quickly becoming a great area to get a good amount of loot and XP, meaning it will be a smart area to grind in the future if things get even worse.

I end this session by finding the one area in the map where you can rest and heal up. Like Fang Lair, this place is an endurance run where only one place on the entirety of the map lets you heal up. Unlike Fang Lair, most of the map is above ground and filled with ridiculously powerful enemies. Combined, this makes for a place of torture that makes it unsurprising that I was stuck here in my last playthrough, I doubt I would be making much progress at all if it wasn't for my dual-Longswords.
