The original Doom 3 was somewhat miserly with ammo, forcing you to make every bullet count while giving you little in return. While this encouraged you to switch weapons more often, it also added an extra layer of stress atop of the gameplay that I’m glad we don’t have to deal with so far in the BFG Edition. That’s not to say that it definitely won’t happen but the early game isn’t the best time for it.

Speaking of making every bullet count, we have a weapon that is normally found later on which is brilliant at clearing rooms, an old favourite of mine that I was too stringent with in my original playthrough. That’s an attitude I’m going to have to try and shake off I’m going to make it through this higher difficulty mode, though I doubt I’ll ever be using grenades except in emergencies on account of me being terrible with them.
