Let’s Play The Fall #08: Our Mission Above all Else

With the Hive Slug queen taken care of, we can finally reach the mainframe that the caretaker told us could be used to alter the parameters of the final test. Once we do that, we can finally be validated, allowing us access to the medical facilities our pilot so desperately needs. It’s been a long and difficult ordeal but finally Josephs will be safe and-
...What’s that? Everything is tying up too neatly considering the tone of the rest of the story? That may be but it’s not like something terrible can happen that’ll risk throwing everything we’ve worked towards and our pilot in jeopardy, right? ...Right?
I was recommended this game by a friend of mine and I have to say, they made a good call. The Fall is a wonderfully atmospheric and interesting adventure platformer that’s also a point and click adventure game with combat elements. The graphics are dark and moody, the music sinister and the gameplay quite solid. The voice cast do a good job and the story is compelling, though you can sometimes get stuck due to not finding the one particular thing the game wants you to find with your flash light. A hint system would alleviate that issue but I only got majorly stumped once. The combat was a nice addition, breaking up the puzzle solving with very real peril. It’s not a very long game but that’s no bad thing as it meant that it didn’t outstay its welcome, though I would have liked to have unlocked all the features of the suit to see how they work. Those who enjoy point and click adventure games will likely enjoy playing The Fall provided they don’t mind the combat segments.
So, what’s next? The time of year that this game finished means that I will need to do a little palette cleanser but after that, I think we have little choice but to continue right where this story left off. I know that doesn’t leave anything to work out as to the follow-on game but there’s still the matter of the palette cleanser. What I will say about that is that it’s delightfully adorable and follows the adventures of a group of well-loved characters who live peacefully in a far-away land of green fields, rolling forests and magical mystery.
