Let's Try Cally's Trials (PC)
2Here's my Let's Try of Cally's Trials, a 2D roguelike action-platformer developed and published by VDO Games. This is in fact a remake of the original Cally's Caves 2, released on the Android and iOS platforms. This title will be released on June 14, 2016.
A key was provided by VDO Games and Dietrich Online Services for me to do a video on this title.
Here, you play as the six-year-old girl Cally, on a quest to save her parents (again) from the maniacal Herbert who built a massive new base deep inside and has turned the titular caves into a dangerous place filled with traps and monsters.
There are 110 levels across 6 biomes, with some requiring certain abilities to access. What makes this title interesting is that there are 12 weapon classes to level up. These can range from the classic Pistol or Shotgun, to things like the Laser or Blade Gun. These can level-up increasing their damage, and eventually evolve at set levels, changing their form and adding new effects.
Overall, my time with this title was mostly positive. I like the gradual introduction of new weapons, mechanics, enemies, and hazards. Plus the structure of the game promotes expert-play while still allowing for lesser-skilled players to progress (such as providing level shortcuts like in Spelunky). Though, the first boss seemed partly dull to fight.
In fact, if you enjoy this title enough, you may want to try out its considerably more expansive sequel, Cally's Caves 3.
