Let's Play Make a Good Mega Man Level Contest - #05: Tier 4 Levels (1/2)
3In this part, I complete the first two stages of Tier 4. It's here where we consistently get above average levels.
First up is 128up's "Under Construction", a stage that focuses on several challenges, but as the title suggests, it's not completely finished. This stage doesn't really have any outstanding themes or features to distinguish itself from the rest. It has somewhat solid level design and enemy placements, but that's about it. It sure isn't as bad as Midnight Snow, but it's easily overlooked.
Second is The Stove Guy's "Spiky Meltdown", a stage focusing on two primary gimmicks: spikes and lava. The first and third segments of this stage involve careful maneuvering around spikes while having to deal with unique platforms and enemy robots. The second segment involves traversing through a lava segment fill of Hotheads and Tackle Fires aiming to knock you into the lava. The fourth segment has you climbing up a few screens, before running left across a collapsing bridge while avoiding being hit by enemies. Then, the fifth and final segment has you going through a few small challenge rooms before reaching the goal.
I find this one memorable thanks to the consistent level theme of spikes and lava, great usage of enemies for the most part, slow introduction of mechanics to teach the player, and great music. This stage could be taken further with the usage of hazards like fire-bars, but the lava corridor is already rather challenging without a shield weapon. If this level was polished up a little more, this could pass as a Robot Master stage.
