Let's Try Linux - Part 10: Parrot OS 4.8

As PART 10 of this SERIES draws, I check out PARROT OS, a Debian-based distro focused on SECURITY and PRIVACY. I installed this within the KDE PLASMA DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT for a bit of extra flash, but the purpose of this DISTRO and, indeed, this episode, is not about customisation and DESKTOP aesthetics (even though PARROT OS does look good).
PARROT OS comes packaged with a number of utilities and softwares to aid in your safety and privacy online. Through the terminal, netstat allows you to see which IP addresses are listening to your connection, whilst anonsurf automatically redirects your connection and packets through the TOR relay, allowing you to browse the surface web with a high level of anonymity.
There are also a bunch of features that PARROT OS ships with that can help you if you're security conscious, such as bitcoin wallets, TOR based file sharing, key generators, and end-to-end encrypted chat service called Ricochet, file encryption and much more. There's even a pentesting tool that affords you the ability to locate vulnerabilities in your network.
Overall, PARROT OS is not what I would reccommend for an everyday user experience. It has limitations and drawbacks due to the fact that it's built for security. However, it performs really well and having this DISTRO installed alongside your normal OS, whether it be via VM or as a boot option, would be really useful and a practical choice in this day and age where your data is regularly being handled by questionable companies with dodgy practices.
