Let's Try: Tales of Autumn
6Big shoutout to the developer for gifting me a key to try out their game!
You have moved into a new town, taking over the local farm since it's previous owner, Gray, took off. No one really seemed to like Gray anyways, so who cares about that jerk? You're going to build up your farm and make friends!
Takes of Autumn is a farming life sim (think stardew, harvest moon, etc), but with a couple key differences.
First: whilst you can farm, you are more focused on changing up the biome of your farm to try and attract local wildlife that has since left. There's a lot of mechanics around the idea of reintroducing biodiversity into the local area. It's a really interesting change. You can also befriend these interesting creatures to get unique items from them.
Second: you actually have to befriend the locals if you want to succeed. Certain things are gated off until you've actually become friends with people in down. You want to fish? You want to upgrade your science barn? You want to open up more of the map? Gotta make friends!
Whilst I feel like there are a few rough edges for the game (mostly with character positioning and inventory management, and the music loops are too short according to my chat) this is a very charming little game. The writing is cute, the wild animals are varied and interesting, and the introduction of biome manipulation is legitimately interesting.
