Let's Try: Viola: The Heroine's Melody
Full disclosure: I was given a key to this game by the developer. My review is honest, but I just wanna get that out there.
Viola is in many ways a love letter to so many anime/jrpg tropes, but at the same time is very much it's own thing. You play Viola (obvs) who is very bad at playing her now dead mother's violin. She plays it so badly that she rips a hole in the universe and is pulled into another world that's all about music and talking animals and magic and strong women knights. Honestly that world sounds pretty rad. Viola and her gathered companions go on an adventure to get her back to her own home, and probably help this world out along the way.
What I like:
- Great music
- Lovely art style
What I dislike:
- Niko (personal preference)
What is both good and bad depending on you:
- The writing is adorable, if a bit on the nose at times
- Extremely Anime
Overall I enjoyed my time with Viola, and I think I got a decent feel for what the game offers. I don't know if I'll return to it, but I can very much see this game having a loyal fan base, and for good reason
