TDF announced the release of LibreOffice 7.1.7 as the latest update in the series. Check out what's new and see how to install or update.
The LibreOffice is the office suite developed by The Document Foundation (TDF). But it's much more than that: it's one of the most popular open-source, cross-platform office suites.
In summary, LibreOffice is a free office suite compatible with the main office suites on the market.
In early August, The Document Foundation released LibreOffice 7.0. It was a release with important improvements, including improved compatibility with Microsoft Office.
Now The Document Foundation has announced the release of LibreOffice 7.1.7 as the seventh and final release point of the LibreOffice 7.1 series.
What's New in LibreOffice 7.1.7
The LibreOffice 7.1 office suite was released in February 2021 and is supported until November 30, 2021. Now The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 7.1.7 as the latest point release for those still using the LibreOffice 7.1 series.
LibreOffice 7.1.7 is a minor update to fix some bugs in several of the core components of the office suite. A total of 27 bugs have been fixed in this one-off release, and you can see details about them in the RC1 and RC2 changelogs .
If you are still using the LibreOffice 7.1 office suite on your Linux distribution, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to version 7.1.7 as soon as it reaches the stable software repositories.
Alternatively, you can download the DEB and RPM binaries for 64-bit systems from the official website .
However, keep in mind that this is the last update that The Document Foundation will release for the LibreOffice 7.1 series, which means that at this point you should consider upgrading to the latest LibreOffice 7.2 series of the open source and largely office suite used.
LibreOffice 7.2 brings many new features and improvements, as well as better support for proprietary formats created with the MS Office suite. The most recent point release, at the time of writing, is LibreOffice 7.2.2, but version 7.2.3 is expected to arrive by the end of the month.
Also at the end of the month, on November 30th, the LibreOffice 7.1 series will reach the end of its life. After this date, there will be no maintenance updates published, so your installation will be vulnerable and out of date.
