Also known as Super Air Diver, Lock On is a pretty good flight-sim combat game that uses generous amounts of Mode 7 and has a great (but somewhat "samey") soundtrack. You can pilot different crafts that have different handling and weapon-carrying capacity. The game also has various missions with some small differences so as not to seem so repetitve. The game is pretty tough initially, but you'll learn that there's a few tricks and tips you can apply to different missions. Here's a few that I can give.

For instance, the first mission is harder than some of the later missions you'll come across. You gotta shoot down at least 21 enemies before the boss will show itself. A good way to tackle enemies is to come at them straight and when they shoot you, do a somersault at the last second. This will usually register an enemy hit and you flip to safety. You can barrel roll and avoid some attacks due to the increased sharpness and speed of your turns, but it's a lot riskier but can save a little time and fuel if pulled off. It's easier to get regular enemies when you slow down, but enemies are more tempted to lock on to you if you're moving slow, so keep that in mind. Apply these tips to the fullest, as you can defeat the enemies very quickly and still find yourself dying by running out of fuel on bosses as they run off screen and wait for you to run out of time.
