oh boy!! hey guys, welcome to my newest cover!! i'm VERY excited to post this one cuz it's been one heck of a project :D lol. I finished the music for this song on December 9th, 2022, so quite a while ago. I put it on the backburner to edit other projects and do the pixelart in between.

Lonely Rolling Star, what a sad song. the song's lyrics, when roughly translated, tell a story of a lover waiting for their Rolling Star to complete their dreams, and no matter how long it takes or how Lonely they'll be, they'll still be waiting for them back home. It's a beautiful idea and it's articulated further by the music itself. When you pick apart the music theory, it has a lot of jazzy and light intervals that give it a very soft and light feeling with really heavy emphasis on resolving, which is juxtaposed really nicely with the J-Pop style chorus that's always landing on the 3rd. i think it's that combination of feelings and musical ideas that have make this song so memorable and feel so good :)

for music, I tried to really hammer in home those light nostalgic sounding chords with retro/VRC7 samples, violins with a phaser, and a choir. While the melody samples use very light sine and triangle waves. This song was a chore to make because it's one of those songs where you have to spend a lot of time making sure the feeling of it is perfect, so I spent a lot of time swapping samples until i got the perfect texture lol

and for the pixel art and editing, well that's kind of when this project became a production nightmare! i decided to make animal pixelart and have it be animated inside of the video editor, which turned out to be a HORRIBLY grave mistake, cuz i had about 30 video channels of animals dancing that all needed rendered at once and my budget PC did not appreciate it at all lol. Working around my PC's limitations, real life catching up to me for a few months, and the inevitable reluctance to work on difficult projects made this quite a hard project. but like, I think that's pretty symbolic that Lonely Rolling Star was such an amazingly fun, yet extremely upsetting project to work on lol.

with all that said, this is definitely my favorite musical project i've ever made, and the one i spent the most time and effort in. so i sincerely hope you do enjoy!! :) up next will be more celeste and pokemon dppt music so stay toon'd!
