This is the longplay of the game Super Mario Bros 2, an action and platform game released for the NES in 1988 in the United States, 1989 in Europe and in 1992 in Japan (where it was called Super Mario USA).
Unlike Super Mario Bros, this second game has completely different mechanics, as another Japanese game was used as a base, called Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, released for the Famicom Disk System. Here we control Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, each with different attributes of strength and speed, in addition to having different abilities. Mario has a balanced jump, strength and speed, Luigi has the highest jump but a little less strength, Peach has low strength but is able to float for a few seconds in the air and Toad has high strength and speed but a low jump. This game also allowed us to control Princess Peach, who here does not play the role of a kidnapped princess, but rather a playable character. Here instead of simply jumping at enemies, we need to jump at them, grab them and throw them at others. You can also pick up vegetables on the ground to throw too. The mushrooms are found by accessing a world that opens a door when a red potion is thrown on the ground and here they serve to increase the life meter, the hearts to heal and the star serves to become invincible for a short period.
The decision to make a different game came after Nintendo of America discovered that the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 was very difficult by Western standards (and it really is very challenging). It was only years later that the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2 arrived later with the title Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels in the Super Mario All-Stars compilation (released for the Super Nintendo). And for the Japanese market, Super Mario Bros. 2 in the West was released under the name Super Mario USA.
