This is the longplay of the game Super Turrican 2, action game run and gun and platform produced by Factor 5 and published by Ocean. The game was released in 1995 in Europe and the United States.
The game has a basic narrative, which can even fit as a sequel to Mega Turrican/Turrican 3, despite the title “Super Turrican 2”.The game's story follows the USS-Avalon's relief efforts by sending rescue fighters to help a small star system trapped in an endlessly spiraling black hole and being attacked by an evil being known as "The Machine".
Our hero wears a special Turrican Assault Suit that provides him with all the firepower he'll need on his mission with everything from a weapon with variable types of cannon fire to a grappling hook he can use to latch onto ledges. Our hero has 4 types of shots, divided by colors: yellow (rebound shot), blue (laser), red (flamethrower) and green (spread shot). The Turrican Suit provides the user with the ability to perform special actions, such as turning into a ball, similar to Samus' Morph Ball in Metroid. In addition to having an electric beam to paralyze enemies and smart bombs (to devastate all enemies on the screen). Using Grappling Hook is extremely essential to overcome the obstacles of the stages.
The game features quite a few different styles of levels. The standard portion of the game is basically a run and gun effort that resembles a cross between Contra and Metroid. In these levels it's all business as you run through the various terrain shooting everything that gets in your way. There are also stages where Turrican drives vehicles, such as a motorcycle and also a jetpack (in a stage that resembles the Axelay game).
In the technical aspects, Super Turrican has many positive points: the graphics are among the most beautiful of the Super Nintendo, with very well built scenarios, excellent use of colors and zoom, rotation and Mode 7 effects. The shots have very beautiful and well done. The soundtrack is very beautiful, has more orchestrated tones and was also composed by Chris Huelsbeck. The only downside is the speed, which although acceptable, is relatively slow compared to other games in the style and with other games in the Turrican franchise.
Super Turican 2 is a very beautiful and well made game, which makes the most of the power of the Super Nintendo, with a very well done set, impressive graphics and light effects and also a very good soundtrack, in addition to being able to face the terrible The Machine (something that happened in several versions of Turrican, but unfortunately not in Super Turrican). I recommend this game.
