Lost Frontier | OBSIDIAN: Experi-Mental | No Failure Run | Part 1
7I've been wanting to play Lost Frontier again for some time. However, it's kinda tricky when there's practically no other Strife mappacks out there that I haven't already played through. One wonders what to do in such circumstances. Replay older mapsets? That's a doable choice, but it does ruin some of the surprises here and there.
Thankfully, it seems that fortune is on my side for the moment. I'm sure some here might've known of OBLIGE, the Doom mapset generator. Well, OBSIDIAN is a fork of it. It has some features that are quite unique to its predecessor, a particular one being the generation of Strife mapsets! Okay, granted, it's quite experimental, no hub stuff and whatnot, but still, it's enough for today's run. I've got about 11 maps in this wad, but I think I might just run the first one for now. We'll see if I decide to continue the run until it's done or if I cobble up another one.
You'll note that I'm being stealthy for the early bits of this map's run. That's 'cause the map has zero sound blockers. If I were to shoot someone with an unsuppressed weapon, the entire map will be on high alert and drop on me like a ton of bricks. It's not quite OG Strife enemy teleport spawns, but it's noticeable enough to be a problem (entire hordes camping on one door kind of problem) that I decided to take the sneaky route until I'm more well armed.
I've also added in emmy's Freemode addon to remove all invisible walls, primarily so I can evade and progress break when necessary for the run's survival, it is still Lost Frontier after all. Had to do exactly that several times, unfortunately, though I can say for certain that I did still explore most of the map proper before exiting it (not counting secrets).
