I thought this was interesting - a tiny "cardputer" from ‪@M5Stack‬. This is just a quick look as I'll need to do some research on it to understand all that it can do.
https://www.m5stack.com/

At its heart (well, top right corner) is an M5StampS3 which is based on the ESP32-S3 chip. I won't parrot all the facts here, they're available on their website:

I thought I could use it to implement a local network solution to checking our solar inverters' statistics, rather than fetching them from a server in China:
   • Project Idea: Realtime Solar Inverter...

It includes a pair of magnets so I'll be able to attach it to the fridge door.

Let's see!

*Rant about Gerry Harvey:
In Australia anything arriving from overseas under AU$1000 in value (including shipping) was duty/tax free ... the government simply thought any tax collected on items under that value would be far less than the cost to collect it.

However, billionaire chain-store owner Gerry Harvey didn't like this and whinged and whined to the government (like only a billionaire is capable of) that the 10% GST (goods & services tax) should be applied on anything bought overseas.

So now we have to pay 10% tax on the value of an item ... PLUS THE SHIPPING ... that is bought online (i.e. ebay, etc.). BUT ... this tax has to be collected by the overseas company on behalf of the Australian government. The big companies do this, but a lot of smaller ones don't ...

We also have the stupid situation where, due to exchange rate fluctuations, an item is near the AU$1000 ... if it's under when you buy it then the overseas company charges you an extra 10% tax ... but if Australian Customs determines it's over AU$1000 in value when it arrives then they'll try to extort tax AND duty as well (way more than simply 10%) ... even though you've already paid the 10% GST already.
