In this video I'm testing the speed of Apple's ProRes encode and decode engines on the M1 Ultra Mac Studio within DaVinci Resolve.
The aim here is to try and find the maximum speed of the ProRes encoder. To help achieve this I also use ProRes as the media source in the Resolve timeline, which helps to accelerate the ProRes file in the timeline to the video buffer in Resolve because the Apple ProRes decoders will be getting used which will then help speed the transfer of the video buffer into the Apple ProRes encoder.
I've used 1080P and 24 FPS for this test, which is a good starting point that is representative of average use. This resolution and frame rate will also help to speed up the workflow between the ProRes decoders through to the ProRes encoders for the final encoding export output.
During this test the ProRes encode speed was over 1000 FPS, which I suspect is or very close to the maximum throughput and processing speed of the ProRes encoder on the M1 Ultra chip.
