In this video, Magic Boy, released in 1993 for the Atari ST by Empire Software.
Hewlett, a wizard's apprentice, has accidentally released his master's collection of monsters and crazy animals and now he has to capture and send them back to the basement, where they were originally kept. In this fantastic 2D platform game, taking place over 4 worlds, each of them divided into 8 levels for a total of 32 plus bonus levels, we play as Hewlett who is armed with a magic wand which stuns enemies. Once stunned we can pick them up and send them to the basement which is represented in the panel on the lower part of the screen. Like Rainbow Islands the levels are made with vertical scrolling, with Hewlett going from down to up in his hunt. We have 3 lives and 3 continues, various bonuses to collect when a creature is captured or when we hit blocks with an exclamation marks.
I must admit I've never played Magic Boy back in the days because I didn't even know of its existence and I can say that I missed a wonderful game: The graphics, sounds, musics, playability are all top class. It seems a SNES or a SEGA's game; so polished, full of details, colored sprites, digitized music AND sound fx simultaneously, no slowdowns and a balanced difficulty. It's surely worth a try.
Here you'll find intro music and gameplay using the continue feature.

All footage taken from original hardware machines and upscaled to 1080P.

Let me know what do you think about the video in the comments below but, most important, Enjoy!!!
