Gutsman is the fattest robot master from the first game, so if you're stuck make sure you defeat Bomb Man for the hyper bombs. I won't be using them since this is a buster-only no damage run. You can use the magnet beam on this part if you picked it up from Elecman's level. Which you probably didn't because you would need the guts arm to acquire it, so unless you're replaying the level or doing the challenges on Legacy collection, you just need to suck it up and time your jumps. This makes Gutsman or Bombman the most sensible levels to start from in Mega Man 1. I think Bombman is easier to defeat with the mega buster so I usually start there. Gutsman is one of the shortest stages of any of the Mega Man Classic games, so it's good for trying out a perfect run . These pickaxe characters can be a real pain in the ass, make sure to creep up on this last one so you have as much space as possible to run forward and shoot, and you need to shoot as fast as possible too.

The right path leads to some death spikes, so it's safer to go down the middle. If you wanna pick up the large energy or extra life, remember to hug the wall and press against it. You can pause to check and see if it's clear to run underneath, but I always go for the kill, he's 20 shots with the mega buster, they cause a lot of damage so if you get hit just run through while your invincible. I like the boss corridors in Mega Man 1 because they provide farming opportunities. You think they should bring em back?

The trick to defeating Gutsman is to look at his feet. As soon as he hits the ground, jump.
If you have bombs just stay on the top and keeping tossing them, so the strategy is the same. If you jump too soon, you will land while the ground's still shaking and be momentarily stunned. It's actually better to jump too late than too soon because it gives you more time to recover. The window of opportunity is narrow, so it's tough to find the rhythm, but once you get it, it sticks with you forever. Which muscle memories have you built up?
