Mass Effect 2 Gameplay (Insanity Difficulty)
3Although it may not be readily apparent from this video (which just shows some random combat from my second playthrough), Mass Effect 2 can be truly challenging on the Insanity difficult level and some of the more intense and unforgiving fire fights literally took me hours to complete. In order to survive you really have to utilize every ability at your disposal, relentlessly suppress the enemy and take great care to thwart any attempts to outflank your squad. Failure to handle these tactical considerations successfully will be instantly punished.
I rarely return to games I've already finished once, but apart from being an incredibly fun experience Mass Effect 2 is a truly groundbreaking RPG/shooter hybrid which will likely have a huge impact on both genres. No other game before it has combined better shooter gameplay with highly ambitious interactive storytelling, nuanced character development and dialogue of the highest quality. Also, the game's pacing is absolutely brilliant and bespeaks a rock-solid underlying design structure which makes most pure RPGs and action games seem downright tedious in comparison.
Despite being far from a classic old school RPG, Mass Effect 2 may very well turn out to be one of my favorite games of all time.
