Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share the pure gameplay experience with you.

Today we're taking a look at the original Mass Effect on the Xbox Series S.

My immediate impressions so far:

Mass Effect is a treasured and beloved game from the golden days of the Xbox 360 era. Developed by Bioware and released by Microsoft, the Xbox 360 had an instant classic when it originally saw the light of day back in 2007. It's a science fiction RPG set on a grand scale in space with multiple planets to explore and excellent squad based combat. In other words: it's a great title that everyone needs to experience. Sure, it has its quirks and strange animations by today's standards, but it's still a fantastic ride throughout it's lengthy and content-rich runtime.

The Xbox Series S handled the game with grace and excellence. Although the game is rather old, and the graphics definitely dated, to say the least, the Series S still managed to enhance and upscale the content to 4K on my TV rather admirably. In fact, it looked excellent and with the added auto HDR capability, things only got more spectacular and colorful.

Being backwards compatible is a key feature and one of the key elements as to why I'm a part of the Xbox ecosystem. It's simply awesome to be able to play your old games, at least those that are supported by the newer generation. Especially when they're enhanced to this degree with sharpened visuals and HDR support on a hardware level. Really cool to see this commitment from Microsoft, and I highly recommend checking out this classic if you haven't already :)

Also, it might be a good time to brush up on your Universe saving skills before the Legendary Edition releases sometime next year. I cannot wait to see and play these games again in their remastered state.

The game was recorded directly on the console to an external HDD. No postwork has been done.
