Max Payne 3 - Continue glitch in Chapter 5 pt. 1
Results of the original Continue glitch in Chapter 5.
0:00 - Chapter 5-3. Max starts the Checkpoint without a gun, but everything else seems to be normal.
0:14 - Chapter 5-4. Max starts the Checkpoint without a gun and out of bounds - he is actually stuck in a small storage compartment to the left from where you start from. After retry he is back in bounds, and things seem to work out normal from there.
0:50 - Chapter 5-5. Max starts the Checkpoint without a gun and the level lighting is glitched up. It's possible to play onward from this point, and the lighting become fixed when moving onto Chapter 5-6.
2:29 - Chapter 5-6. Max starts the Checkpoint having teleported somewhere out of bounds. He falls into water and can run around the place freely - however, the camera does not follow him, so there are limits to how well you can explore the area.
After retry you end up in bounds and the Checkpoint starts like normal, except Max doesn't have a gun. It's possible to play onward in the level like this (tested up to Chapter 5-7).
3:48 - the cutscenes leading up to next Checkpoint look funny if Max is unarmed.
Speaking of which, Chapter 5-7 is basically just Max starting the level without a gun. If you try to aim, nothing happens, but enemies notice Max anyway somehow.
4:35 - Chapter 5-8. Max starts the Checkpoint from somewhere out of bounds and falls into water instantly. After teleporting on land, things are unloaded and everything is shrouded in an exotic color ambience that makes the water green and the area looking as if it was basking in a warm sunset. But things become fixed once the level fully completes loading itself / you walk back inside the level from the ramp. Now Max is on land, lacking a gun.
5:13 - Retry makes the same event repeat again, although now the game loads correct colors faster.
5:58 - Playing onward in the level is possible, in a sense. The switch that starts Chapter 5-10 is active, and it can be used in a glitchy looking way (Max skips the switch pulling animation and jumps right to the start of the Checkpoint). Some of the level graphics also draw slowly, only appearing as you run close to it. The game finally crashes once you reach the end of the area.
7:13 - Chapter 5-9. Max starts the Checkpoint from somewhere out of bounds and falls into water instantly. After teleporting on land, he finds himself at the ramp leading to water while nearby enemies are looking at the wrong direction and don't notice him. The area also features the same exotic color ambience that was seen in the previous (Chapter 5-8) variation. Walking up the ramp, the colors become fixed and enemies notice Max. Didn't try if it was possible to play onward from there.
7:44 - Retrying, Max appears at normal start of the Checkpoint with the lighting quite dark. He also lacks a gun. The lighting become fixed once you step outdoors, and from there it's business as usual. Playing onward in the level seems possible and normal (although I only tried to Chapter 5-10 half-way).
8:13 - Chapter 5-10. Max starts the Checkpoint like normal, except he doesn't have a gun and there's a huge splash around him. The splash isn't there upon retry. Meanwhile, it's possible to play onward in the level like normal from here.
(Note: on the PC (or just patched?) version there's an extra checkpoint during the fight through the pier, which remains untested.)
