In Maximum Speed, the player chooses between three vehicle categories: stock cars, trucks, and open-wheel cars. Each category offers three different vehicles with varying strengths in speed, acceleration, or balance. After selecting a vehicle, the player chooses a track, each rated by difficulty using star icons.

There are six tracks in total, each with distinct layouts and visual themes:

Liberty Hall Raceway is a high-speed, banked oval reminiscent of NASCAR circuits. It features wide, sweeping turns that support continuous full-throttle driving. Ideal for players who love maintaining peak velocity and anticipating smooth corner arcs. Even the open-wheel class shines here due to the consistent banking.

Breeze Hill Raceway is a scenic course weaving through gentle hills and open countryside. It provides a flowing racing feel with moderate elevation changes, blending high-speed straights with mild undulations. Best suited for balanced or acceleration-biased vehicles, especially in stock or truck classes.

Wizard Grove Raceway is a tight and twisty woodland track lined with dense trees. It demands higher steering precision and quick response to navigate the narrow paths. While full throttle is still viable, cautious steering through sharp bends makes the balanced class perform best.

Rodeo Peak Raceway is a rugged mountain circuit featuring steep inclines, rock faces, and elevation shifts. The route mixes tight turns and uphill drifts. Trucks,with their middle-ground stability or balanced vehicles perform best, especially on the medium and hard variations.

Mirage Motor Stadium is a closed-circuit track inside a futuristic stadium. Bright floodlights and crowd walls give it an urban, arena-style atmosphere. It combines medium-speed corners with some tighter bends, a good showcase for acceleration-type vehicles aiming for tight lap times.

Desert Storm Raceway is a sandy, desert-style circuit defined by light dust clouds, dunes, and wide sweeping turns. With long straights and few sharp corners, this track favors top-speed vehicles, especially in the open-wheel class where Maximum Speed truly shines.

All six tracks offer three difficulty tiers (Easy, Medium, Hard), indicated by star ratings. Hard-tier versions introduce longer layouts, sharper turns, fewer checkpoints, and more challenging curves . Despite different environments, from ovals to desert dunes, the core gameplay remains consistent: full throttle through curves, minimal braking, and checkpoint-based time extensions.
