Please note: I am not playing at a high skill level. This is meant to be a guide for beginners or people who find this game too hard, so playing with too much practice would be self-defeating. This was recorded after I hadn't played a Mega Man game in over a year, on purpose.

I would call the previous parts of this series "Phase 1". It's a solid order to follow, because it gets you to a state of having good weapons, decent life, and an E-Tank easier than any other route for Xtreme Mode, in my opinion.

Now we're entering "Phase 2", which is a bit more freeform. The ultimate goal of Phase 2 is going to be to have the D-Barrier and Shock-Buffer, which makes Xtreme Mode actually pretty tolerable. We can either head for Infinity Mijinion, or finish off the Laser Institute. For the purposes of the video series, I'm going to put off the boss encounter for as long as possible, so it's back to the Laser Institute.

0:25 You'll notice my E-Tank is empty. This is because the game doesn't remember the state of your E-Tanks after you quit out. I didn't want to have to go refill it, so I have to do this area a much more demanding way. You, however, should come here with a full E-Tank and be prepared to use it. I'll point out exactly where.

1:00 Don't forget, an up-close Z-Buster shot tends to ignore these guys' defenses.

1:11 The little mosquitoes here are a Nightmare effect. They can be annoying with some bad RNG where they choose to fly right through, but overall I consider them one of the preferable Nightmare effects to have in place.

I'm not concerning myself with my health for this part because I know I intend to take a suicide to "heal up" before the next tough stretch.

1:35 That suicide takes place here.

1:44 From here we have to go through the hardest stretch of the level to reach the next checkpoint. There's no single part of this that is particularly difficult, but the whole level design is godawful (as it usually is in X6), and there's almost no way to play "right" or "clean". It should be possible if the enemies didn't respawn almost immediately upon going offscreen, but they do, and it becomes a big problem in the next room.

2:21 Here's a great example of the mosquitoes being annoying. I'm trying to preserve as much health as possible here, yet one just flies right through me.

3:07 Sometimes the hitbox on these things is just completely nonsensical to me. I don't know why the game wouldn't let me kill this guy. If I had my E-Tank, this is where I could have used it and saved myself another attempt.

3:29 This begins my actual successful run through this stretch.

5:21 I really hate the way you have to taunt this laser into firing in the right direction. And then once you do the particle effects cause damage and block your path. And then half of the time the laser will redirect and unlock anyway.

5:28 Well he didn't give me trouble that time... Guard Shell might make a big difference here. I'm not sure.

5:40 This is where I recommend using your E-Tank, after you have the laser successfully activating this next repeater. If you have made it this far, you're likely very close to the brink of death, but with a refilled health bar you should be assured to make the next checkpoint. But there's a good chance you're out of Guard Shell by now, and it's extremely easy to take several cheap hits from the criss-crossing lasers here and the mosquitoes.

6:05 I Z-Buster to kill this guy quickly, in case you don't catch it. I think he's supposed to be some kind of extra final challenge but... he's not. Once you drop down through this door, you've finally hit the last checkpoint. Once you drop through the door in the floor, you've hit the checkpoint and are through the worst of it.

6:11 Hidden wall. This is another "race the Nightmare to the Reploid" situation. You don't want to let this guy get grabbed or you'll be redoing the previous brutal stretch. Very disheartening.

6:35 A dumb death, but it doesn't matter. I have to suicide to 0 lives to get back out of here anyway, so this is actually a help more than anything.

6:52 There are three Reploids up here, and the third one is another one with a Nightmare racing toward him. Grab all three as quickly as possible, then feel free to take a suicide to get the Heart Tank.

7:51 You'll see there are two Reploids up above me here. It's entirely possible to get them with iframes and some precise air dashes, but they have nothing we need right now (the Energy Saver Limited Part), and it's easier to come back for them later.

8:42 This guy is the last Reploid we need to save right now, so I go ahead and suicide the rest of the way out. Otherwise at this point, you'd have to beat High Max to leave (or Dynamo if you already have).

10:21 I check my Reploid screen at the end here. If you've been following my guide this far, you should have 48 Reploids saved, 16 / 16 / 14 in the three stages we've visited.
