Well, let's go see who's gonna be fought for the final battle and...oh wait, that's Zero running off on his own like an idiot after hearing Iris's voice.

What happens in the next room? Zero embraces Iris, that's good.

Sigma trapping Zero and telling "Dark" Iris to fuse with him? Bad! Yeah, Zero's idiocy in thinking someone very close to him was all roses has finally come back to bite him in the ass.

The fusion Dark Iris performed brings in another chapter of the fabled multi-head serpent saga. Of course, X has to dismantle this serpent all on his own.

This fight is not to be taken lightly. All three parts use MkII versions of skills you've picked up over the course of the game. Not as much damage as what bosses have been doing as of late, but remember, that's three targets all piling on damage to one person. Watching hp closely is going to be a requirement here.

Now, taking out the top head will end this fight. However, I start out by spamming Rising Fire. It's the weakness of the bottom most head, but it also damage the top one quite nicely. Healing is done anytime X gets a turn and his hp is hovering around the 3.5-4k mark.

After that bottom head gets eliminated, it's Nova Strike time for the top head. One less head inflicting damage makes it easier to watch hp totals and heal as needed.

Once the serpent gets silenced, fight #2 begins almost immediately. This time, the boss has four attacks it can select from. All of them involve summoning an "old" maverick via a Revive MkI through IV skill to do some kind of attack. The higher the rank of Revive used, the higher the damage will be.

Oh, and the reason old was in quotes? It's not just mavericks from this game it uses attacks from. Two of them use mavericks from well into X's past. Even if you've played the original trilogy, one of them still hasn't made an appearance until now, that of Magna Centipede. Will he be seen in the next two games at all? Time will tell.

Afterwards, Dark Iris hits the floor and apparently got knocked back to reality. Sadly it came with her dying, but that's fine, right?

Nope. Zero's none too happy with X about what he did. You could chalk it up to his own idiocy for letting this happen, but recall the other element to Zero that's been concerning this whole time...his energy levels have been rising. Seeing Iris die more or less made those energy levels go haywire.

So, what does Sigma do this time? If infecting Iris wasn't enough to do the trick, maybe he can do the same to Zero. Thusly, the final fight of the game starts, set to a pretty rad remix of the song heard when you fought Zero in X2.

Sadly, Sigma didn't somehow give Zero increased combat power. He's got two attacks that do any real notable amounts of damage. Hell, some of his attacks only do triple digit damage. Basically, it's a bit of a glorified cutscene where you can Nova Strike spam into Zero over and over until he gives up. So long as you heal when X falls below 2001 hp, you'll be fine.

After the battle...the now infected Zero leaves with Sigma to see his master. Basically, the bad guys won this battle as they got what they've wanted this whole time, Zero. X is definitely feeling the pressure. The world has to be saved, yes. However, can he kill the one who's stood by his side during this seemingly endless war?

It seems like things are stacked against him, but unbeknownst to him, a time portal from the future is being opened and two people are heading through it to bring some assistance to X in the present timeline.

Those two people? Zero and his navigator Ciel.

With that, the credits roll, but at the end, we see what Sigma's master has in store for Zero. Basically, whomever this person is wants to bring out the Omega factor inside of him. That's not good!

Two games are complete now and the story is definitely on a high note. The third leg of this journey into the past begins next time!
