Video Transcript:
Mercy’s main goal is to keep her allies alive and boost their damage output. She does this by using her Caduceus Staff - left clicking will heal her target for 50 hit points a second, and right clicking will increase their damage by 30%. While channeling this ability, you are able to turn the camera completely around without detaching the beam, allowing you to scout for enemies. The beams have a range of 15 meters and can only be used within line of sight, but will remain attached briefly if losing your ally giving you the chance to close the gap.
Mercy cannot heal herself, but she will automatically regain health while not taking damage. It’s useful to know that the beam will also heal shields and armor except for Torbjorn’s armor packs. Both beams will contribute to her ultimate charge unless you are healing an ally’s self-damage like Junkrat.
It takes a bit of finesse to learn when to use which beam, but it is generally useful to damage boost an ally to finish someone off, and switch to healing to bring them to full health afterwards. Coordinate with your teammates so you can increase their damage during ultimates. Some of the best heroes with ultimates to boost are Bastion, Soldier 76, Pharah, and Winston, and just regular damage boost is good for McCree and Junkrat in addition to these.
Guardian Angel is an ability that allows Mercy to remain close to heroes with high mobility. It has a one and a half second cooldown and will tether you to your target in order to reach them quickly. This is of course useful for rushing to aid an ally, but it can also be used as a quick escape if you find yourself in a sticky situation. If you hold down your jump button after using this ability, Mercy will slowly descend to the ground, allowing her to remain close to heroes such as Pharah.
Mercy’s firing weapon, Caduceus Blaster, is the weakest weapon in the game so use it sparingly. It can be useful for taking out Junkrat Rip-Tires or traps, a vulnerable McCree using Deadeye, or turrets that are out of range, but don’t use it if there’s an ally nearby that needs healing or damage boosting instead.
Mercy’s Resurrect is arguably the most powerful ultimate in the game. It will bring all allies within 15 meters back to full health as long as they have died within the last 10 seconds. An indicator on your screen tells you how many nearby fallen teammates there are, but also keep an eye on the kill feed so you know who you’ll be reviving. Allies will appear gold while being resurrected and will be invulnerable and unable to attack or move during this time. Revived teammates will fade into the same place that they died, so you may want to wait to use her ultimate if an area is heavily guarded and would just result in your allies dying again immediately.
While it’s obviously best to resurrect multiple players, don’t be afraid to use it on just one person, especially if it’s a McCree, Reinhardt, Bastion, Mei or Zarya as these heroes can often help turn the tides of a battle and they take much longer to return to a fight than many others.
